Eat one of those and your tummy will curl right up! Seriously speaking, a favorite attack on radiometric dating involves dangling “horror stories” about gross errors before the reader, thus giving the impression that radiometric dating is totally unreliable. Woodmorappe , with his collection of some bad radiometric dates, must surely be the master of that technique. Upon being presented with claims that radiometric dating is totally erroneous, a question naturally arises: If radiometric geochronology is half as bad as Woodmorappe’s list suggests, then how in the world did geologists ever arrive at a tight consensus for the official dates? Look at the various radiometric tables in use over the last 20 years or so and you will find, at least for the fossil-bearing strata, a remarkably tight agreement. Did the geochronologists throw darts to determine the accepted dates? Matson, , p.

Interactions of an object with another object can be explained and predicted using the concept of forces, which can cause a change in motion of one or both of the interacting objects. An individual force acts on one particular object and is described by its strength and direction. The strengths of forces can be measured and their values compared. What happens when a force is applied to an object depends not only on that force but also on all the other forces acting on that object.
A static object typically has multiple forces acting on it, but they sum to zero.

Scientific measurements such as radiometric dating use the natural radioactivity of certain elements found in rocks to help determine their age. Scientists also use direct evidence from observations of the rock layers themselves to find the relative age of rock layers. Specific rock formations are indicative of a particular type of environment existing when the rock was being formed. For example, most limestone represents marine environments, whereas, sandstones with ripple marks might indicate a shoreline habitat or riverbed.
The study and comparison of exposed rock layers or strata in different areas of Earth led scientists in the early 19th century to propose that the rock layers could be correlated from place to place.

Their endowment by a prince or monarch and their role in training government officials made early Mediterranean universities similar to Islamic madrasas , although madrasas were generally smaller, and individual teachers, rather than the madrasa itself, granted the license or degree. Green and Hossein Nasr have argued that starting in the 10th century, some medieval Islamic madrasas became universities. Medieval university and List of medieval universities The university is generally regarded as a formal institution that has its origin in the Medieval Christian tradition.
It is possible, however, that the development of cathedral schools into universities was quite rare, with the University of Paris being an exception. In the early medieval period , most new universities were founded from pre-existing schools, usually when these schools were deemed to have become primarily sites of higher education. Many historians state that universities and cathedral schools were a continuation of the interest in learning promoted by monasteries. The University of Bologna began as a law school teaching the ius gentium or Roman law of peoples which was in demand across Europe for those defending the right of incipient nations against empire and church.
Bologna’s special claim to Alma Mater Studiorum [ clarification needed ] is based on its autonomy, its awarding of degrees, and other structural arrangements, making it the oldest continuously operating institution independent of kings, emperors or any kind of direct religious authority. Volunteers aged with dyslexia took less time to read passages from children’s books, possibly thanks to an attenuated excitability of the cerebral cortex. A study described in an article by Brazilian and French researchers reports increased reading speed for nine- and ten-year-old volunteers with dyslexia who used green filters.
The filters had no effect on age-matched children without dyslexia. Colored filters for the treatment of learning disabilities were first patented in

Abstract While technology affords new opportunities and benefits for educators in their teaching practice, a significant number of faculty are resistant to adopting new technologies. Adopting the Technology Acceptance Model TAM as a framework, this paper argues that one of the greatest challenges facing business schools and Higher Education Institutions HEIs in the 21st century is not new technologies themselves, but the ability of educators to embrace educational technologies.
Drawing on the qualitative data to emerge from interviews with accounting educators recognised as exemplary in their use of innovative technologies, this paper explores the reasons for lack of faculty uptake and argues for academics to become innovators rather than inhibitors. The findings offer a timely insight into a twenty-first century issue affecting HEIs and, specifically, accounting academics.
While carried out in the Accounting discipline, the findings may be relatable and applicable to all disciplines. A suite of recommendations are proposed for institutions, business schools and academics to consider. Previous article in issue.

How do they decide who matches up with who? Sometimes, the process is very simple. Each profile has a list of attributes or interests that members check off. Some sites, like match. Each matching attribute is assigned a different weight depending on how important it is to the user. For example, if you prefer blondes, but really have nothing against brunettes and redheads, then you can rank that attribute as very low.
